In conclusion, narrative illustration has many options for an illustrator to be able to express themselves and show the world their creations. It gives them a chance to influence an audience and convey many different stories and perspectives that they might not have themself.
It’s important for illustrators to know how they cope with guidelines. If an illustrator knows they need exact descriptions of characters or locations, then taking a project with little to no guidelines is no good. By choosing projects that speak to you and your abilities, a narrative illustrator will find much more enjoyment in their work.
As a narrative illustrator myself, I found a lot of joy in bringing life to others ideas and stories. I love being able to play around with character and location concept designs and make small changes based on either my client, or a different understanding of the text. I find it fascinating to research fellow narrative illustrators and see how their planning and processes are different to mine.
